ITS TIME YOU GOT TO KNOW THE REAL STORY
THE REAL ME
THE ME I HIDE FROM YOU and EVERYONE ELSE
But I’ve gotta be honest, lately I have been searching my soul for a lot of things – not just answers, but things I miss, things I pass by or glance at every day and don’t take the time to appreciate its purpose, it’s impact, its space, it’s mere existence. There’s one of my old favorite movies called “The Big Lebowski”, and in the movie, the main character’s rug is stolen (purely by mistake in a last name phonebook lookup mix-up), and he spent the whole movie trying to find it, all because he said it “really tied the room together”. I don’t often go searching for anything other than my keys, my wallet, or whatever else this jarhead loses.
The point is, I have never been a stop and smell the roses kind of guy. My time in the Corps taught me to execute one task, and immediately seek out and execute another. We didn’t wait for acknowledgement, pats on the back, thumbs ups, or good job stickers — but oh boy.. if we messed up we sure got a reminder of THAT! HAHA!
So during all this time of reflection, I have come to acknowledge there’s a ton going on in the world around us. Some of you may feel we’re at the end. You might be without hope. You might be scared, you might be angry, you might feel defeated. And let me tell you, taking this kind of time to reflect will certainly bring to light a great many memories, emotions, and not all will be pleasant. I promise you, I know what its like, I’ve been there, and we can all probably come up with at least one or two times in our lives where we really believed we weren’t going to make it.
But I am here to tell ya friends, WE. ARE. STILL. HERE. And we may not be the same we used to be…. the nicest we’ve ever been to each other, it may not seem like the morals and values of yesteryear exist; But reality is cultures change, opinions don’t, and all this happens in front of our eyes as if we’re watching but are helpless.
The truth is though, that we’re not helpless. Since I started 911 Roll-On in 2017, I have nearly had to declare bankruptcy or close down four times, and if I’m being honest, did so against the behest of the the most amazing mentors God has ever created. I have drained my business and personal accounts into negatives, run up credit, borrowed from Peter to pay Paul, and all the while, I did it to live a life FOR SOMEONE ELSE or because that’s what I thought I had to do to make it. I can’t tell you how fucking hard that is to admit to a group of people, many I’ve never even had the privilege to meet or speak to. But there is a sprit that lives in me, that lives in all of you, that whether you like the connotation or not, is a warrior spirit. It lives to protect, it lives to survive, it lives to prosper. And it lays dormant in us. Every time we choose not to pick up after ourselves, or go for one more rep, or work one more hour, or proof-read that contract one more time…. It builds a house even you don’t want to live in. And I can’t really tell you exactly when or if I had that “AHA” moment. Life for me has been, probably much like yours, a long road of many lessons — someone we understand at the time, some that we don’t until much later.
But I could not have scripted a better journey. To me, 911 isn’t a pain-relief roll-on. To me, it represents a service to every one of you, that has a warrior spirit inside you. It represents that you do whatever you have to in order to keep going, you find a way and DO IT even when you don’t believe you can.
So, to you who commit to your dreams, whether that is being a pro athlete and constantly get cut and don’t quit. To the Single Mom who can’t catch a break… to the roughneck sacrificing family time to provide…. To you who REFUSE to let life beat them, 911 is a Grand. Fucking. Toast. To every single one of you that want to quit, but don’t. That could quit, but don’t. That have every reason to give up, but don’t. That suffer through crippling depression to find a reason to get out of bed, that realize they don’t have a choice. And somewhere along the road, I think I realized, life seriously can’t be just about making it through “this”… whatever “this” was….. and if it was… why the fuck would I want to hang around…. But little by little I realized, it’s not about me… it’s not about you… it’s not even about us…. Our differences make us beautiful and we are here to love by choice… I kept missing the idea that it was a choice…. But it is… and let me tell you… once you decide.. it’s a game changer.
911 was made to help YOU, the one doing the work, doing the suffering, making the sacrifices, to get through it. Beat back what’s beating you. We all need a little nudge sometimes, we all need something to keep us going – sometimes its a coach, a book, a quote, a song, a goal… it really doesn’t matter.. because our experiences are unique and are intended to be that way. So just keep going. That’s all I have told myself – when I lost my car, my marriage, my career, my momentum…. I just kept saying… well… if this one didn’t kill me… guess I should take another step… and THAT IS ALL YOU NEED TO REMEMBER.
And you know what? It’s almost five years, and no snakes in the grass, con-artists, questionable partners, have been able to take this ship down.
SO thank you… for sticking by us even though we’ve not always been perfect. We’ve delivered late. We’ve had growing pains in product quality. But we’ve also had the grace of the BEST CUSTOMERS, SUPPORTERS, and FAMILY anyone could ever ask for.
SO as we move into our next chapter, I’m unveiling a new attitude for 911. We’re not playing it safe anymore, we’re not worried about offending anymore. We are going to get ours, and IT. STARTS. NOW.
Over the next month, I will be releasing a series of tiered-skill level physical fitness and mental fitness guides. These aren’t books, bibles, or cliff notes. These are what got me through every failure, every tear, and drop of blood, and still kept me going. There is no challenge, there is no fee. Our fee is is our effort, our heart, and the love we put out. I ask you to stand behind me. Tell a friend. Share this story. Recommend us to someone new.
Thank you for believing in us, and trusting us. Bless you All, and Semper FidelisSergeant Thomas A Beighley II, USMC Combat VeteranCo-Founder, Owner, 911 Roll-On
