LET’S TALK HABITS
The dictionary definition of a habit is a behavior repeated.
So much of who we are, where we’ve been, and we’re we’ll go is rooted in our habits.
Some of them are good, some of them are bad.
This unconscious development, when we stop and think about it, is quite the phenomena.
Much like you can get in a car and drive home from work without hardly remembering the trip, our bodies are built to install certain efficiencies that support our behaviors or habits.
When we begin to dissect them, we start to see that these habits have even more to do with our confidence, self-image, and generally speaking, the way we approach life.
If you have bad ones, you’re probably often finding yourself in a bad mood.
If you have healthy ones, you are probably a tad more on the happier side.
But what did you know that they can be broken in the exact same way they were formed?
Well, not exactly.. but stick with me.
Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that it takes the act of doing something 21 times to make a habit. That’s the amount of time it takes for your body to automatically call up the behavior and execute it according to its programming.
Now, let’s say that you wanted to break a habit. I bet you can guess how long it will take? That’s right… 21 days.
BUT
Instead of trying to break the habit, replace it with a new one.
Too often people say, oh I need to quit this or that.
Take smoking cigarettes for example.
It’s not enough just to stop, or that gap in your life will eventually lead you right back to where you were, doing the exact same things.
What are the habits you would change if you could?
And rather, now that you know how, what will you change?
Make your life a pursuit of good habits, and it will be a joyous one.
Now, let’s take our new habits and go get some!
